Kennedy Announces Cross Country Awards

Head Montana State cross country coach Dale Kennedy announced the 2009 team awards today.

Two sophomores won the prestigious Top Gun awards this season. Patrick Casey (Laurel) was the men's Top Gun and Heather Haug (Livingston) won the women's award.

Haug and Casey also were named the team's Most Improved Runners. Casey shares the men's award with junior Carl Nystuen (Kalispell).

“Heather, Patrick and Carl had tremendous seasons,” Kennedy said. “Each one of them improved on every race they ran this year.”

Haug ran number one in every meet this season for the Bobcat women. She placed 26th in the 2008 Big Sky Conference meet and finished 14th in the same meet this fall.

Casey ran number one in two events and number two in three events. Casey was all-conference at the Big Sky meet and also was an All-Region selection placing 21st at the Mountain Region meet in New Mexico.

Nystuen placed 39th at the conference meet in 2008, and placed 24th in this year's meet.
