Arria Minor Throws Down Two State Records In State Preliminaries
What a day it was for Denver East (CO) junior Arria Minor.
The nationally ranked sprinter, currently No. 9 in the MileSplit50, threw down two state records and qualified for the finals in three individual races on the first day of preliminary action at the Colorado High School Athletic Association Championships on Thursday in Lakewood, Colorado.
In a sign that Minor is in peak form, she absolutely demolished the field in the 400m, producing a US No. 1 time and US No. 18 all-time effort of 51.92. Minor surpassed the record state record of 52.49 seconds, which went down in 2013 by Regis Jesuit graduate Ana Holland.
It also marked the first time Minor went under 52 seconds, clearing a barrier that she almost accomplished in 2017 when she produced a time of 52.05 at the USATF Junior National Outdoor Championships.
Minor wasn't finished, though.
She also produced a remarkable -- and wind-legal -- time of 22.89 (+1.9) in the 200m, passing a record she had set herself this season at the Cherry Creek Invitational earlier this month.
Culminating her first day of action, Minor also qualified for the finals in the 100m, running a wind-legal . mark of 11.51 (-0.6).
