Colorado's Brie Oakley and Lauren Gregory placed first and third. Last year, Oakley was 26th in her first-ever cross country season and Gregory pulled out of nationals due to an injury that hampered her entire junior year.

No one was more excited for Ember Stratton's runner-up finish than her teammates from Sunset High School:
Anna Gibson had a huge breakthrough to improve from fourth in the NXN Northwest Region to fourth in Portland. Last year, she was just 72nd at the regional meet.
In a 10-day span, eighth grader Grace Ping set an age 13 world record for road 5K in 16:36 and placed sixth at NXN. She was briefly barred from competing in Portland due to her young age.
Allie Schadler hoped for the win, but settled for seventh overall. The University of Washington commitment was 17th at NXN as a sophomore and did not compete at the NXR last year due to injury.
