51st ANNUAL MONTANA HIGH SCHOOL ASSOCIATION
STATE CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS

DATE: October 25, 2014

SITE: Bill Roberts Golf Course Helena, Montana

DISTANCE: Three (3) miles

SCHOOL CLASSIFICATION: AA,A,B,C

ENTRIES: No more that seven (7) athletes plus two (2) alternates from each school for each of the boys and girls teams. Five (5) athletes must finish to qualify for the team score. Class C will need (3) athletes to qualify. A team may compete with less than five (5) athletes (three (3) in class C), but will be recognized on an individual basis only.

Note: For an athlete to be eligible to compete in the State Cross Country Meet he/she must compete in at least two Association meets during the regular cross-country season and have completed it in under 30 minutes for boys and 35 minutes for girls.

Eligibility Certification and Fee Submission Forms: For the 2014 State Cross Country Meet, Cross Country Coaches will be required to complete the attached Eligibility Certification and Fee Submission Forms (one for the boys team and one for the girls team) and submit the forms to the Meet Director Jim Opitz when picking up their state meet packet. The forms are used to certify the eligibility of your runners and to calculate required entry fees. Entry forms for each school will also be used this year to verify that each participant has met the prequalifying criteria. Participants must have competed in at least two regularly scheduled in-season meets and finished in one of the meets with a time of 30 minutes or better for boys or 35 minutes or better for girls as established by MHSA.

RACE TIMES: The MHSA handbook dictates Race order. Race times will be as follows:

Class AA Girls 11:00 am
Class A Girls 11:35 am
Class AA Boys 12:10 pm
Class A Boys 12:40 pm
Class B Girls 1:10 pm
Class C Girls 1:45 pm
Class B Boys 2:20 pm
Class C Boys 2:50 pm

Contestants will be called to the marshalling area 15 minutes before race time. Contestants will be called to the starting line 5 minutes before their race begins. Marshalling area will be on the driving range area immediately West of the starting line.

COURSE:
Times will be given at both the 1 mile and 2 mile mark.
There will be a holding pen for the Top 15 finishers.

COURSE PREVIEW: The course will be able to be walked beginning at 4:00 on Friday, October 24 and closing at 6:00. It will also be available Saturday morning from 9:30-10:30 before the race. In the event there is frost on the course on that morning, we may delay access until the frost dissipates. Runners are not allowed on the course while races are in progress. UNIFORMS: Rule 9, Section 6, articles 1-2-3-4-5-6 and 7 will be followed. Numbers assigned to each runner should be securely fastened to the front of their shirts.

JEWELRY: No Jewelry will be allowed on competitors. Watches are not considered jewelry and a participant may wear only one watch during the competition. The watch must be unadorned and may be worn only on the wrist. GPS watches will not be allowed.

DRESSING ROOMS: Dressing room facilities and showersCapital High School 100 Valley Dr. Towels will not be provided. Please call in advance of arrival if you are intending on using the locker rooms by Wednesday, October 22nd at 324-2107. No items should be left behind in the locker rooms. They will not be secured.

COACHES MEETING: There will be a coaches meeting Friday, October 24, at Capital High School 100 Valley Dr. The coaches meeting will be in the Auditorium at 7:00 p.m.

INFORMATION PACKETS: Team packets with athletes names, numbers and timing chips may be secured on Friday, October 24 after the coach submits the Eligibility Form for each gender and the Sportsmanship Statement completed and signed. The packets will be available at the course during the preview time. The packets will also be available from 9:30 10:30 am on Saturday October 25. The numbers in the packets should be pinned securely to the front of the runners shirts. The packets will also contain timing chips (2 for each athlete competing). The timing chips are to be secured to the top of each foot with the ties provided.

DISQUALIFICATION: A runner may be disqualified for failure to follow Rule 9 (Competitors Uniform), Section 6, articles 1-2-3-4-5-6 and 7 and according to Rule 9 Section 7, Articles 1-5 of the 2014 NFHS Track and Field/Cross country rulebook.

CHUTE: A chute will be used at the finish to facilitate recording of the contestants as they cross the finish line. The first 15 runners in each race will be directed to a holding pen prior to the individual awards. Runners should have their chips removed by chute volunteers before
leaving the finish chute.

SCORING: Montana High School rules of scoring the Cross-Country Championships will be followed. Total points scored by the first five (5) contestants of a team will count as team score for Classes AA, A and B. Total points scored by the first three (3) contestants of a team will count as the team score for Class C. The team with the lowest total wins.

AWARDS: A trophy will be awarded to the first three team winners. Individual awards will be given to the first fifteen runners in each race. The team members of the winning team will receive medals.

TEAM TENTS: Team tents will only be allowed on the driving range this year.

PARKING: Limited parking will be available at the golf course parking lot. No parking will be available in the Golf Course Parking Lot for busses. Busses should park in the softball complex parking lot southwest of the Golf Course.

ENTRY DEADLINE: The entry deadline for coaches entering their teams is Sunday, October 19, 2014 by 4:00 pm. Please follow the enclosed entry information carefully.
