I love looking up statistics and using the MileSplit database, and since its not outdoor season yet and I was bored stuck inside, today I started researching former Missouri high school runners and what they did in their collegiate (and some post-collegiate) years. Running a 5k under 14 minutes is obviously a great achievement and seems fairly rare. Here is a quick list of more recent runners who went to high school in MO who I knew of and found in the database that have accomplished the feat: Matt Tegenkamp (one of only 9 Americans ever to go sub 13) Maksim Korolev Devin Meyrer Caleb Hoover Zach Herriott Daniel Everett I know this list isn't complete but it's what I found just trying to think of recent top distance runners from this state. Anyone know of others, especially those who ran prior to 2000? Is this less rare than I thought?

@captain1816 I am pretty sure Joe Falcon ran 13:20 at the 1990 Prefontaine Classic.

Thanks for the responses. I also found that Jason Sandfort from West Plains ran a 13:49 outdoor 5k in 2004.

Seth Summerside ran 13:30.07 in 2007 and other fun fact, ran his 3:57.84 mile in the same race that Alan Webb set the American Record of 3:46.91 that same year.

@kozirunner Thanks for that! I've seen the video of that Webb mile record a few times but never knew there was a Missourian in the same race. I looked him up and found his college results, but couldn't find his high school times. Where did he go to high school?

@Hays Found him now. I looked at the MSHSAA State results from the early 2000s and late 1990s, but couldn't find him until I checked the track championships. Did College Heights not have cross country at that point, or did he just not run cross country?

@captain1816 Not sure of his HS XC times, but I know his first year in college at UMKC he went from a 28:30s or so 8K to near 26:00 by end of the season. Wanna say he ran one more year there before going to Arkansas and really dropping his times.
