Seven Bobcats earn honors for classroom efforts

The United State Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has announced the 2011 All-Academic selections. Three Bobcat men and four Bobcat women earned the honors for their efforts in the classroom and on the track. In addition to individual recognition, both Bobcat track and field teams earned team honors.

Bobby Biskupiak, Jeff Mohl and David Phillips earned accolades for the men after an outstanding outdoor campaign.

Hannah Counter, Heather Haug, Stacey Irvine and Sarah McGree were named to the women's All-Academic squad.

As a team, the women's accumulated a grade point average of 3.32. Eastern Washington, Idaho State, Montana, Northern Arizona and Weber State also made the honor roll.

The Bobcat Men garnered a 3.26 grade point average, the highest of the Big Sky men. Eastern Washington, Idaho State and Weber State also earned honors.

“Not only am I proud of the individual student-athletes who received this award, I'm proud of the entire program,” said head coach Dale Kennedy. “These kids truly put forth a tremendous all-around effort.”

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).

The squads earned the distinction as a result of being the highest-placing teams with at least a 3.00-cumulative GPA at the most recent NCAA indoor and outdoor championship, respectively.  The USTFCCCA announced 90 squads as All-Academic teams for the track & field seasons.
