Two Bobcats Named Big Sky Athletes of the Week

After an impressive weekend at the Al Manual Invitational, the Big Sky Conference (BSC) has named David Phillips and Heather Haug Big Sky Track and Field Athletes of the Week.

Phillips earns his third Field Athlete of the Week nod in 2011. Phillips takes the honors after winning the Hammer Throw at Montana with a distance of 60.27m (197-09.00). He also took silver in the Discus with a throw of 44.40m (145-08.00). His performance in the Hammer marks an automatic qualifier for the Big Sky Championships, May 11-14, in Sacramento.

The Deer Lodge, Mont. native leads the Big Sky in the Hammer Throw and is ranked 18th in the region. He was twice named BSC Field Athlete of the Week during the indoor season.

Haug was named Big Sky Track Athlete of the week after earning two medals. The Livingston, Mont. native took first place in the 1,500 in 4:23.50, the current top time in the conference and an automatic qualifier. She also took third in the 800 with a time of 2:19.04. She is currently ranked seventh in the BSC in the 800.

This marks the second time Haug has earned Athlete of the Week honors in 2011 after receiving the recognition back on Feb. 22 during the indoor season.
