Casey Earns All-American Nod

The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced the 2011 All-American recipients on Monday. Distance standout Patrick Casey was named a Second Team All-American for his valiant efforts in the Mile Run. He finished twelfth in thenation in the Mile with a time of 4:01.54.

“All-American recognition is always a tremendous honor,” said head coach Dale Kennedy. “Patrick had a terrific season and we look forward to what he'll be able to do this spring.”

Casey was the lone Bobcat to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in College Station, Texas. The Laurel, Mont. native is coming off an historical indoor season where he set a new program record in the Mile with an unadjusted time of 3:59.76. His sub-four minute mile resonated throughout the running community as his performance marked the best on Montana soil and in the world.

This is Casey's second All-American award. Last year, he finished third in the Mile at Nationals and was named to the All-American first team.

267 men and 270 women earned either first-team or second-team USTFCCCA All-America distinctions for the 2011 NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field season. A total of 642 awards were given as a result of performances at the Track & Field Championships in College Station, Texas. In addition, 46 individuals received honorable mention for their participation in the championships. First-team honors were given to those who placed in the championships' top eight or were a member of an eight-person final. Second-team honors were handed out to those who earned final classifications between ninth and 16th place. Others who participated earn honorable mention.
