Bobcats ready for Bozeman Running Company Invite

The Montana State Track and Field team hosts the Bozeman Running Company Invitational on Friday, Feb. 11. MSU will be joined by Weber State (Utah) and Montana. The field events will begin at 4:30 p.m. while the track events are slated to start at 5:30 p.m.
Friday's meet is the second of three consecutive home meets for MSU, with next week being the final home stand of the 2011 indoor season.
The Bobcats are coming off of several positive notes headed into the BRC Invitational. Most notably, Patrick Casey's Mile Run at the MSU Dual Invitational (Feb. 4) earned him an NCAA Indoor Championships automatic qualifier and a first place finish at the meet. His unprecedented and unadjusted time of 3:59.76 marks the first time a sub-four minute mile has been run on Montana soil. His altitude adjusted time of 3:54.56 is the current top time in the NCAA.
The Bobcat throwers will also look to put on another impressive performance after finishing 1-2-3 in the Shot Put last week. Trevor Gilreath earned the gold for MSU while Morgan Norgaard finished second. David Phillips picked up the bronze. All three Bobcat men earned season bests in the Shot Put. Phillips also earned gold in the Weight Throw.
For the MSU Women, Camille Marchand will see if she can produce a third weekend of medal-earning performances in the sprint events. After a week off from competition, Heather Haug will hit the track in the Mile and the 800 in attempts to improve her rankings in the Big Sky Conference.
“There's been so much progress as of late and this weekend's meet should hopefully be no different,” said head coach Dale Kennedy. “This will be a great meet to assess progress as we're getting closer to the Big Sky Championships.”
After finished last week's meet with 47 season-best performances, the Blue & Gold will look to continue their hot streak and also improve on their 28 qualifying performances for the Big Sky Indoor Championships being held Feb. 25-26, in Pocatello, Idaho.
