The Big Sky Conference announced that Patrick Casey and David Phillips were named Athlete of the Week for the week of Feb. 7, 2011.
Casey earned Track Athlete of the Week honors after an outstanding showing at the MSU Dual Invitational last Friday (Feb. 4). The Laurel, Mont. native won the Mile with the first-ever sub-four minute performance time of 3:59.76. Adjusted for altitude, Casey's time was 3:54.56, the top-time in the Big Sky and the NCAA. He also anchored the MSU 4x400 Relay that came from behind to win the event with a time of 3:18.73, also a season best for the Bobcats.
The middle distance runner is currently ranked third in the 800 Meter Run, and second in the 3,000.
Phillips grabbed Big Sky honors as Field Athlete of the Week after earning two medals at the MSU Dual Invite in the Throws. The senior garnered a gold medal in the Weight Throw with a person best distance of 19.20m (63-00.00). In the Shot Put, Phillips threw to a third place finish behind a 1-2 Bobcat finish with another person best of 16.24m (53-03.00).
