MSU Track and Field Student-Athletes Gain Academic All-America Recognition

Montana State track and field teams were honored recently by the USTFCCCA for academic team and individual excellence for the indoor and outdoor seasons.

MSU's women's track and field team made the list of 151 teams with a cumulative 3.30 grade point average. MSU's men had a 3.18 GPA making the elite list of 73 teams. This marks the 15th consecutive year that Bobcat women have achieved the team honor and the second straight year for the men.

On the individual side, 551 women were honored for GPAs above 3.25. The Cats had three women on the list including Heather Haug, Allison Jones and Stacey Irvine. Haug was the Big Sky Conference outdoor champion in the 1500. Irvine was an all-conference selection in the pole vault and is the current indoor champion in the event. Jones is a multiple all-conference thrower for the Cats.

On the men's side, 357 received the national academic recognition with the same 3.25 GPA requirement. The MSU distance trio of Matt Adams, Nick Atwood, and Patrick Casey were named to the list. Casey in as All-American in the indoor mile and redshirted the spring season. Atwood is a multiple all-conference selection in the distance races, and Adams is an all-conference performer in the steeple chase.
