Bobcats Do Well at National Track & Field Championships

Montana State track and field athletes competed well at the 2010 Outdoor Junior National Championships this week at Des Moines, Iowa.

Jeff Mohl, a freshman from Red Lodge, placed ninth of 17 overall in the men's decathlon. Mohl scored 6190 points, his second best career performance to date. The decathlon is a series of ten events scored against a prescribed point value for each event. The better a competitor does against the national standard, the higher points accumulated in each individual event. The event consists of the 100-meter dash, long jump, shot put, high jump, 400-meter run, 100-meter hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw, and 1500-meter run.

Emily Tyrrell, a junior from Grand Forks, North Dakota, placed 13th in the women's javelin with a best throw of 150-01. Tyrrell, an All-American for the Bobcats in the event this year, was in the top six collegiate throwers in the open event.
