Montana State women came out on top of Weber State and Utah Valley at the tri-meet Saturday at Ogden, Utah. MSU women scored 71.5 points to Weber State's 65.5 and UV's 54 points. 

"I really like the way this women's team is developing," head coach Dale Kennedy said. "We had a lot of season's bests today and several events where our women went 1-2-3 or 2-3."

MSU women continued to dominate in the javelin where Emily Tyrrell threw a season best 163 feet to win the event. She was followed in second by Lena Suek and Mary Brown took third with a Big Sky qualifying throw of 134'5". MSU also went one-two-three in the pole vault where conference leader Stacey Irvine placed first and was followed by teammates Mary Vaughan and Rebecca Chambers. Kris Schaffer won the shot put with a season best toss of 49'1" while teammate Lena Suek won the discus throw at 145'8". Jessie Greany was second in the high jump with a season best 5'7".

On the track side, sophomore Camille Marchand won both the 100 (11.94) and the 200 (24.65), both  season best times. Freshman Katie Niemeir was a new Big Sky Conference qualifier in the 100 hurdles placing fourth with a time of 14.77 and placed second in the 400 meter hurdles with a season best 1:02.10. Heather Haug qualified for the BSC in the 800 placing third. She has already qualified in both the 1500 and steeple chase. MSU went two-three in both the long jump and triple jump with Ashley Kropp placing second in both events followed by Sarah McGree in the long jump and Courtney Austin in the triple.

Weber State's meet did not include the hammer throw as weather rendered their hammer area unusable. Some of the men's throwers traveled to an invite at Brigham Young. Pat Eckerson placed fifth in the hammer throw at the meet with a toss of 186'5" and Morgan Norgaard threw a personal best in the shot put placing fifth with 51'5".

At Weber, MSU's men came in third in the scored part of the meet. Three new Big Sky qualifying marks were turned in by Dan Jackson in the 5000(15:09.9), Graydon Curry in the steeple chase(9:53.37), and Adam Hutter in the high jump (6'5"). Jackson won the 5000 meter event. Other notable marks were turned in by Casey Clausen in the shot (50'7.25") who placed second and Willie Sullivan in the javelin (189'8"), also placing second.

The Bobcats host their final home meet of the season next Saturday, May 1 against the University of Montana.
