Montana State milers Heather Haug and Patrick Casey claimed their respective conference crowns in the mile races Saturday afternoon at Bozeman. 

Casey (Laurel) held off NAU's David McNeil in a time of 4:09.92, a full five seconds slower than his season best time. McNeil ran a 4:10.14. All times in the race are not altitude adjusted. Casey has an NCAA provisional time in the event.

Haug (Livingston) overcame Montana's DeWalt in the last turn of the race in a mini-version of a Cat-Griz duel. Haug had led the event coming into the meet. Her finishing time of 4:57.88 was not her fastest time of the year, but fast enough to take the crown.

"This is the first time since I've been here that we've won both miles," head coach Dale Kennedy said. "This is a great historic moment for our program.

Casey has yet to run the 800 and a leg in the men's four-by-400 relay.
