Junior Olivia Rider led the Montana State track and field teams at the Bobcat Open Friday qualifying for the conference meet in two events. 

Rider's times in both the 55 meter dash and the 400 meter run were fast enough to give her an automatic bid in next week's Big Sky Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships here in Bozeman.

Senior Ashley Kropp also qualified for the conference meet in the triple jump, winning the event jumping 37'7.75". The jump beat her season best mark by almost nine inches.

On the men's side, junior Asa Staven qualified in the long jump placing second behind teammate Matt Nicholas, who had previously qualified in the event. Senior Dustin Cichosz qualified for conference in the high jump giving MSU three men in the event. Cichosz had previously qualified in the triple jump. Morgan Norgaard also qualified for the BSC in the weight throw. He had previously qualified in the shot put.

Junior Amanda Murphy climbed to the top of the Big Sky performance list in the shot put with a heave of 49'1.75" just nudging out teammate Kris Schaffer for the top spot in the BSC. Stacey Irvine, who had previously qualified for the BSC in the pole vault, won the event with a season best mark of 12'7". Heather Haug reached a qualifying mark in the 800.

The Bobcats have qualified 59 performances so far for the Big Sky meet next week. In events where there are not 12 automatic qualifiers, additional performances will be taken in the event to fill the field to a minimum of 12. Entries for the conference meet are due on Monday morning with a complete listing of entrants available by Tuesday afternoon.
