Track and Field Wins Six Duals at Fleet Feet Meet

It's not quite the conference meet, but it's a good preview.

Four Big Sky Conference schools competed in the Fleet Feet Dual Invite Friday at the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse head-to-head in a team scored meet that saw Montana State men and women defeat Montana, Weber State and Idaho State.

“It was really a great meet for us,” MSU head coach Dale Kennedy said. “We had 20 women's marks and 17 men's marks that were season's best .  Eight women and seven men had lifetime best marks. Our kids just did a good job,” Kennedy said.

At the top of that list of best performances was a NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the 3000 for junior Nick Atwood. The time of 8:03.38 keeps him at the top of the conference in the event and puts him 16th in the nation.  Sophomore Heather Haug (Livingston) had two personal best marks at the meet, one in the 800 and the other in the mile where she was just one second short of a NCAA provisional mark.

Sophomore sprinter Camille Marchand set a couple of personal records in the 55-meter dash and 200-meter race.

Senior Bobby Biskupiak won the men's pole vault beating his personal record by over a foot. He cleared 16'6.75” and had a couple real good looks at 17'0.75”, a NCAA provisional height.

“I felt real good at that height and I think I can get over it,” Biskupiak said of his miss at the provisional mark.

The 'Cats qualified five more performances for the Big Sky Conference Championships at the meet including sophomore David Phillips (Deer Lodge) in the shot put, Carl Nystuen (Kalispell) and Dan Jackson (Bozeman) in the 3000, Tyler Heinz in the mile and Rebecca Chambers (Billings) in the pole vault.

Montana State's men compiled 40 more points that Montana beating the Griz squad 89-49. MSU's men downed Weber State 75-66 and beat Idaho State 82-68. The women downed the Griz 94-41, beat Weber State 75-66 and Idaho State, 82-68.
