BOSTON, MA -- On Friday, two high school athletes accomplished remarkable feats at the Boston University Last Chance Meet.

Stevens Point's (WI) Roisin Willis, the returning New Balance Nationals Indoor national champion at 800m, posted the third-fastest indoor 800m of all-time, winning the second heat of the women's race in a new US No. 1 time of 2:03.05.

The effort is now only behind Sammy Watson's national record of 2:01.78 -- which is also a senior class record -- and Mary Decker's 2:01.80, which the two-time World Champion at 1,500m and 3K accomplished in 1974 as a sophomore while at Portola High School (CA).

It's the fastest 800m of Willis' career and surpasses her outdoor PR of 2:04.86, which she accomplished last June when she won the event at Brooks PR.

But in the same race, Willis' former record also went down.

Moses Brown (RI) School freshman Sophia Gorriaran surged late to finish in 2:03.98, registering a new Freshman Class record. Her performance moved ahead of Willis' 2:05.70 from NBNI in March of 2019.
