The Big Sky Conference announced the Athletes of the Week for the Week of Feb. 22. Heather Haug earned Track Athlete of the Week while Stacey Irvine and David Phillips were named Field Athletes of the Week. The recognition marks the fourth time this indoor season Montana State has earned Big Sky honors.
Haug earned her stripes after a strong performance in the 800 Meter Run at the Bobcat Open on Feb. 18. The Livingston, Mont. native's time of 2:13.70 was a personal indoor best and her second fastest in the 800 ever. Her mark also was a first place finish and a Big Sky Championships automatic qualifier.
Irvine, the Blue & Gold's leading Pole Vaulter this season, hurled herself to a height of 3.82m (12-06.25), which ties her season best. The Telkwa, B.C. native is currently ranked fourth in the Big Sky. Irvine took gold in the event at the Bobcat Open.
Phillips nabbed his second honors of the indoor season after sweeping both the Weight Throw and the Shot Put. He currently ranks third in the Shot Put and first in the Weight Throw. At the Bobcat Open, he threw a distance of 18.71 (61-04.75) in the weight throw and 16.46 (54-00.00) in the Shot.
All three will be competing at the Big Sky Championships Feb. 25-26 in Pocatello, Idaho. Idaho State will be hosting the meet.
