GREELY, Colo.--The Montana State men's cross country team placed second in the Big Sky Conference Championships at Greely, Colorado today. Due to bad weather, the 8k race was postponed one hour and ran at 11:00 a.m. Junior
Nick Atwood placed fourth and sophomore
Patrick Casey placed eighth, both winning all-conference honors.
"I've never seen a course in such bad condition," head MSU coach
Dale Kennedy said. "The first part of the course was on a hill and was pretty much a mud field."
Senior
Matt Adams just missed all-conference honors placing 12th. Senior
Graydon Curry placed 20th , and senior
Carl Nystuen placed 25th.
"Matt went out hard at the beginning of the race and led for quite a bit of the race but I think that first muddy hill took a lot out of him," Kennedy said.
"Northern Arizona didn't surprise anyone winning the meet," Kennedy said, "but the battle for second through fourth was exciting."
Montana State placed second with 68 points, University of Montana placed third with 76 and Weber State placed fourth with 91. Weber had been picked in the pre-season coaches poll to place second.
The MSU women placed sixth, the same place as last year's championship. They were led by sophomore
Heather Haug, who placed 14th. She was followed by
Kala Jauquet who placed 30th.
